Overlooking the Brunton burn and circled by green fields, the Granary is a handsome stone building dating back to the late 1700s. Expertly revived into a light, bright, colourful home-from-home, with a welcome hamper of local treats.
Spanning three floors, a stylish and comfortable open-plan living space is the hub with a snazzy kitchen at one end, large dining table in the middle, and a cosy, fire-warmed snug beyond. Head to the basement for games of ping-pong or foosball, choose a film for the widescreen TV, and help yourself to a drink from the bar. Upstairs, find four generous, well-dressed bedrooms, two en suite, two sharing a bathroom stocked with fragrant White Company goodies.
Take your coffee at the outdoor table or run down the grassy bank to the burbling stream, where otters and leaping trout have been spotted. It's deliciously tranquil, with only the sound of birds. On foot or by car, there are good pubs to discover.
