The architect-owner has worked some magic here, restoring this old farm building with real feeling for its past. One wing stands much as it was, agricultural and unpolished, while weathered larch and bold glazing mark out the rest. Step through the front door and a wall of glass rises ahead, mezzanine windows pouring light into the hallway. Birch ply is used throughout, while underfloor heating keeps everything toasty.
Climb the stairs to the mezzanine living room, which looks down over a wood-burning stove and armchair in the kitchen below. Call down your orders to the cooks, or hide with a book by the stove. There are two bedrooms: a double downstairs, the snuggest room in the house and perfect for a good night’s sleep, and a twin upstairs, both sharing a bathroom with an excellent shower.
Outside, a walled garden with birch trees gives you spots to sit in the sun, while upstairs west-facing windows catch glimpses of the sea.
