Step into this château and step back through a thousand years of history. Dating back to the 12th century, fought over during the Hundred Years' War, and once visited by Richard the Lionheart, it has been restored with great sensitivity – owner Benoit is writing a history of the house and there are fascinating notes for each bedroom.
The three beautifully individual guest rooms look out over different corners of the estate. Thick stone walls keep summer heat at bay. Bathrooms are en suite; one has a freestanding bath and all have locally made toiletries. A sunlit medieval kitchen promises generous breakfasts of croissants, coffee and more. Browse the library of 10,000 books (and counting), tickle the ivories in the study or simply sit and soak up the silence.
Outside, wander through the landscaped park or watch for herons and kingfishers at the lake. Cool off in the spring-fed plunge pool or try your hand at pétanque.
