Mas du Couvin - Self-catering house in Bouches-du-Rhône
Mas du Couvin
route de Cacharel, 13460 Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer, Bouches-du-Rhône
Provence - Alps - Riviera,
Francia
Built in the 1970s, and thoroughly renovated, the house overlooks the 'marais' – the best the Camargue has to offer, in the protected national park, where nature reigns supreme. The main part of the house is on two floors, with the master double upstairs and the rest on the ground floor – all are spacious and have wonderful views, light wool bedspreads from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, spoiling gowns and sparkling en suite bathrooms. There is much style and character everywhere.
The living area is a grand spot to linger, even if the weather isn't playing; the kitchen is a convivial space for gathering and cooking together, with plenty of bells and whistles for the fussiest of cooks. Outdoors is equally stunning: a dining area under a sail, a fabulous pool, an open-sided cabin at the water's edge with hammocks and hanging chairs, some gorgeous trees and sculptures.
White horses roam, flamingos fly overhead – a paradise for nature lovers.

Local points of interest from Sarah Ferton:
Punti d'interesse locali da
Sarah Ferton:
- The house is 7km away from the village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. This ancient whitewashed village is the soul of the Camargue. It is famous for its gypsy pilgrimage, wild beaches and authentic Provençal atmosphere.
- We are 5 minutes' drive away from one of Europe's finest birdwatching sites, the Pont de Gau Ornithological Park. Hundreds of flamingos, herons and egrets in their natural habitat.
- Camargue is known for its lagoons and marshes. Our private lagoon is part of a vast, protected wetland ecosystem. It is one of the last truly wild landscapes in Western Europe.
- We are 30 minutes away from Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage city. You will appreciate the Roman amphitheatres, walking in Van Gogh's footsteps, and one of the best Saturday markets in the South of France.
- We are 30 minutes away from Aigues-Mortes, a medieval walled city rising dramatically from the flat Camargue plain. You can walk the ramparts, then visit the extraordinary salt flats, a surreal pink landscape harvested for centuries.
- The Camargue is known for its white horses and black bulls. We can arrange a guided tour to watch a herd of white horses gallop through the marshes, or spot the iconic black bulls roaming free.
