It’s a fabulous find: a gorgeous old house with a stunning garden within striking distance of endless beaches. Tables and chairs sit invitingly at the foot of ancient trees, pots are full of colour and sofas and armchairs are dotted about a shaded terrace. The house has been in the family for over a hundred years and is run with great affection.
There’s a sitting-room fire for cooler nights and a billiard table if you’re stuck indoors. Wake to Italian breakfast cake, local ham and cheese, fresh bread. Dinners are on request: chef Riccardo will host, doling out traditional Sicilian dishes with an accent on fresh fish, served in the inner garden.
Walk to beautiful beaches and the ruins of Phoenician Tharros, drive down to Cagliari then visit the World Heritage site of Su Nuraxi on your way home – it’s the best preserved Nuraghic site on the island.
