Green Cottage - Self-catering in Co. Cork
Kinsale, P17 XD92, Co. Cork
Munster,
Irlanda
This is a grand spot, right next to the beach and with lovely walks over to Goat Island at low tide spotting gulls and oyster catchers. Your cottage-in-a-row is open plan and absolutely charming with local art, posters and prints on the walls, plenty of comfy seating, a cosy wood-burner and lots of good books. On sunny days you can sit in the front garden enjoying the views and planning your next move.
The kitchen has ample prepping space, bonny china, colourful plates on the walls and more fabulous views. An honesty pantry has all the basics – you just replace what you might use. Two simple bedrooms have painted wooden panelling, hooks for clothes and gorgeous linen. They share a gleaming shower room with fluffy towels.
Sandycove is ideal for wild swimming with a little walkway down to the beach. Or hire a kayak and spend a day exploring secret beaches and caves, with fish and chips and stargazing afterwards.

Local points of interest from Fionnuala Maynard:
Punti d'interesse locali da
Fionnuala Maynard:
- The cottage is one of 4 cottages in a row which were once all one lodging house for the workers who came off the grain boats that docked off Sandycove island.
- You will always find someone to be your swim buddy should you fancy a swim around the island. People come from all over to train at Sandycove to swim The Channel. If long distance swimming isn’t your thing, take a sauna and dip instead. (Booking essential)
- A walk up the headland and on over to Courtaparteen, a church ruin and famine village is not to be missed. Look out over Goat Island, how many new kids can you see frolicking there?
- Garretstown beach is the place for surfers and sauna. Check out @wildercork followed by a smoothie bowl and coffee at Bean and Berry. Take a spin on up to the Old Head to take in some amazing views.
- You're in Murphys county now (no Guinness here, nah, only joking!) - whilst watching the sunset over Castle-park marina down a pint o the black stuff before stopping off on the way home at the bridge to buy the best fish and chips in town.
- The marine nature reserve, loch Hyne is a must and for the walking tribe Gougane Barra is waiting for you. The historical walking tour of Kinsale is full of fascination and fun.
