This boutique-style big white quinta sits in a very sleepy old village - eat in the dining room which opens onto a swish veranda so you can observe the comings and goings of the neighbours. Wander down to the local cafe which in typical rural Portuguese style is only open when the owner feels like it!
You're well fed: Jack's wife Anna was born here and her mother tends a vegetable and fruit garden in the village so much of her produce ends up on the table for 'surprise dinners' - no menu, choice of fish or meat, everything fresh, seasonal and delicious. At breakfast you'll have freshly-squeezed juice from the oranges in the garden - all year round.
Walk marked trails, long or short, which Jack has printed for guests (he knows the area well and can advise on much to see and do,) join mountain bike routes (hire bikes here) or take a packed lunch and head off for the day. The nearest restaurant, Toino Moleiro is in Tabua just a 20-minute drive and with a reputation for fresh grilled fish and meat. Or just stay put for a fabulous bird-filled garden and a lazy pool area with many sofas. There's also a brand new spa which you can book privately.
