Traditional and modern mix beautifully and bedrooms are quietly elegant. Relax and drink in the views over orchards and the Sierra Nevada

Secluded terraces, soothing fountains, channels ferrying water everywhere. An almunia is a Moorish summer residence and there's a distinctly Moorish feel to this hillside garden. The house stands in its own orchards, its white lines softened by groves of chestnut, olive and fig, its interiors a masterly mix of period and modern: traditional slate floors and contemporary art, leather chairs and woven hangings, arresting colours and lots of books. Beautifully finished bedrooms in the main house (the downstairs ones have superb terraces) smell deliciously of cherrywood and are lavishly equipped; bright kilims and ceiling fans add to the elegance. Two contemporarily gorgeous new rooms – whose picture windows embrace the view – cut into the hillside behind. From the vast rose-painted sitting room step out to admire the manicured lawns, the dramatic sweep of mountains and the valley below, enjoy the jazz during an immaculate dinner. A charming couple, José Manuel and Patricia run their house with intelligence and passion. Perfect for sybarites, 20 minutes from Granada yet tranquil and remote.

"The hotel is perfect. The location is fabulous, the rooms are a very high standard and spotlessly clean. The most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. The food was delicious - with a wide variety of choices for breakfast. Last and certainly not least the hosts, owners Patricia and Jose along with Maria were lovely - they made you very welcome and looked after your every need. Would highly recommend for couples."

"This is such a special place that it is tempting not to make recommendations to avoid being unable to get a room next time. Patricia and Manuel have created a tranquil, and stylish environment complete with fragrant gardens and wonderful service. Food is prepared by Patricia for those guests who wish to dine and the best of local produce is used in creative ways to produce a wonderful eating experience. We dined on the scenic terrace looking down across spectacular views. Rooms were charming and styled with character and imagination. We loved the private terrace and sense of relaxation."

"This is a fantastic hotel.Owners and staff very friendly. The only issue is the hair-raising drive up to the premises.Rooms good and pool/public areas excellent. The real plus is the food.Good buffet breakfast and a very good 5 course evening meal for 32 euros a bargain. drinks are also reasonably priced. All our fellow guests were of the same opinion this is a gem and worth the drive to get to."

"Beautifully designed rooms (we were on the top terrace with the great views), warm welcome, attentive owners and cheerful staff. Patricia's pride in the dinners she prepares for the pretty, intimate dining room, is not misplaced. We could not fault any aspect of the quality fabrics, supplies, food. Breakfast on the terrace was wonderful - the views are superb. Owners do all they can to help with guests' questions. Well placed for Granada, and great to escape back to after site-seeing. Do follow directions carefully as some their signposts have been obscured by road signs, Drivers of smaller vehicles will find it easier t o park. Highly recommended!"
