Gloriously cool in summer, cosy in winter, a 365-day-a-year retreat. Just a 10-minute promenade along the beach into the fun heart of town

Welcome to Sitges, the 'Saint Tropez of Spain'. Picasso and his set used to come here, drawn by its sands and languorous charm. In a leafy avenue one minute from the water's edge is a 1920s house, beautiful, peaceful, restful and big enough to get lost in with high ceilings, shuttered windows, private balconies.

Find herbs and spices for your kitchen, toys and games for children, books to read, logs for the fire - and more: table football, a gazebo (wicker sofas, romantic chimenea) and cushioned seats under the trees; the garden is a sanctuary. Take a splash in the salt water pool, relax on a lounger, have a sociable lunch on the poolside decking, or the lawn. As for Sitges, it has everything: wineries, restaurants, festivals, fireworks, culture and élan.

Return to light and airy bedrooms (some with balconies overlooking the sea) all with good art and more books.

There are many fiestas and festivals around Sitges. Corpus Christi in June when the streets are festooned with flower petal designs, St Juan at end of June to celebrate the beginning of summer by having picnics, playing music, fireworks on beach.
Fiesta: The biggest fiesta is Fiesta Mayor at end of August which is a huge party with Catalan dancing and human towers as well as drummers and the most amazing fireworks display. Another similar fiesta is Santa Tecla at end September .
La festa de la Verena is a wine festival show casing local bodegas beginning October.
Sitges International Film Festival in October where films are showing all day in several different locations. The theme is fantasy and it ends with a Zombie walk! Jan 5th the 3 Kings and a superb procession arrive with sweets for all the children.
Within a couple of hours of Sitges you can ski for the day at La Molina, hike in the Pyreenees or visit the monastery and mountain of Montserrat. Other interesting sites are Poblet Monastery and Santa Cruz Convent all good for day trips.
The vineyards and wineries of the Penedes region and cava area are all close by and private tours can be arranged. There are many mountain biking routes in the Garraf hills above Sitges and bikes can be hired.
