This 17th-century farmhouse exudes warmth - sink into deep red sofas in front of the stone fireplace after a day's hiking in this secluded valley strewn with pretty, whitewashed villages. You are welcomed by charming owner, José, who was born here and speaks excellent English.
Take in the views of the verdant hills from terrace over summer breakfasts of serrano ham, local cheeses, homemade cakes and jams. José can arrange horseback riding, mountain biking and tours of local cheesemakers. For dinner, traditional Basque dishes are served in the restaurant: cod-stuffed peppers, local artichokes and fresh white asparagus in season, roast lamb shoulder.
Rooms are welcoming with warm tones and traditional tiles; two have balconies overlooking the hills, another has its own sitting room and some are on the ground floor. You are far from any big towns, surrounded by tranquillity and green, a perfect rural escape.
