Find oak beams and shutters, small-paned windows and thick old walls in this pretty cottage surrounded by glorious gardens and stunning countryside. Horticulturist Sarah gardens with wildlife in mind and has her own beehives and a walled vegetable garden – any summer/autumn excess is offered to you and you are free to wander at will in the evenings.

It’s a generous place, with wine in the fridge, the fire ready to light and a full basket of logs. Stroll to Cartmel for Michelin-starred food from Simon Rogan, Unsworth Yard for a bakery, a super cheese shop, tapas bar, brewery and wine merchant, or enjoy a pint in one of the riverside pubs.

Visit famous gardens, take a lake cruise or head to the coast – then return to a stylish kitchen, a sociable place to cook and eat together while admiring the garden views through the stable door from the bistro table. Sink into the large comfortable sofa in front of the wood-burner to chat about today’s – and plan tomorrow’s – adventures.

Leave your car in the car park and walk straight from the cottage, almost immediately you will have views of Morecambe Bay. Join the Coastal Path at Bigland Tarn or walk the sea shore from Grange to Humphrey Head. Guides and maps are in the cottage.
Coniston Water is perfect for wild swimming - 20 mins away, the east shore has quiet bays and shallow water. Mountain biking at Grizedale, water sports on Lake Windermere, climbing Via Ferrata at Honiston Slate Mine and in the village Cartmel Segway.
Four miles over the hill just past the Lakeland Motor Museum is the Haverthwaite Steam Train - transfer to a hop-on-hop-off ferry around Lake Windermere. You can opt to walk between stops. An easy way to visit Bowness or the new Jetty Boat Museum.
Crumble Gardens open for the NGS but guests can visit privately each evening. Close by is Levens Hall with it’s ancient topiary, Holehird, Sizergh Castle and Holker Hall are also great gardens and along the way lots of specialist plant nurseries.
Cartmel’s riverside pubs are warm, welcoming with craft ales, log fires and good food or, eat at one of Simon Rogan’s Michelin restaurants for a special treat. Several places serve hearty breakfasts, delicious coffee and of course sticky toffee pudding!
Our famous cheese shop is a firm favourite with guests - set in Unsworth Yard a place also to eat al fresco with tapas, fresh pizza, fine wine and it’s own microbrewery. Visit the delicatessen and bakery to bring a selection home for a special supper.

"We recently stayed in crumble cottage. What a beautiful place set in a charming part of the world. Ideally suited for exploring the Cartmel Peninsula and a sort walk from the village itself. Crumble cottage is superbly decorated with high end fixtures and fittings. The bathroom is one of the nicest we have stayed in. The kitchen is excellently equipped. Sarah and Stewart are extremely friendly and helpful. We would go there again tomorrow!"

There are loads of nearby attractions, the village has great pubs and if it rains, hole up and enjoy a round of Scrabble, provided in the box of goodies. We'd thoroughly recommend this cottage."

"Cosy, comfortable and quirky .. with little thoughtful special touches which make you smile … you need to go to find out!! Smart shower room, and well equipped kitchen .. and super living space with a dining table by the huge window giving lots of natural light!! The gallery bedroom was lovely. We really liked the flowers and herbs right outside of our door …pretty and tasty too!! "A brilliantly well thought out layout that perfectly blends the original features with all modern amenities, the photos don’t do it justice. We immediately felt relaxed and at home and couldn’t have wished for a better location as wonderfully peaceful but only five minutes from the centre of Cartmel. We booked the optional hot tub which was fantastic after a hard day hiking and really did add to the luxury feel. Sarah and Stewart are also the perfect hosts as lovely to chat to and get some recommendations but left you with plenty of privacy to enjoy what is an idyllic romantic break."

"Crumble Cottage was heaven. Perfect location to visit the West Coast and Southern Lakes and on our 4 night stay we certainly made full use of the ambience and location of the cottage. It was brilliant to be wakened in the morning by the Morning Bird Chorus. The cottage has been built to the highest standards and has everything you would want even a log burner. Nearby Cartmel has some wonderful restaurants serving great food and cask beers, don't miss a visit to the micro brewery and cheese shop. Cannot wait to revisit in near future."

"We can highly recommend Crumble Cottage. We arrived to a basket of vegetables and fruit a jug of herbs and vases of sweet peas all from the garden, lovingly cared for by Sarah and Stewart. The cottage was beautifully prepared for us and Sarah and Stewart were on hand every day always unobtrusive so we felt we were on our own. We did enjoy their company and conversation. Cartmel and the surrounding area was beautiful and some super places to eat particularly in Cartmel from budget to Michelin Star. "

"Crumble Cottage is a gorgeous place to stay just south of the Lake District. We enjoyed 4 days relaxing here on our mini-moon and we had such a great time. Ideally located within walking distance of the 2 Michelin star restaurant l'enclume in Cartmel village and just a 30 minute car ride away from the very best walks and scenic routes that the Lake District has to offer. Crumble cottage with its wood burner is a delight to come home to after a day walking the lakes and the hills of the Lake District and the bed is so super cosy that you will almost definitely have a great night's sleep!! The cottage had everything we needed in the most beautiful surroundings; we were spoiled for choice when it came to things to do, places to see and delicious things to eat! Within really easy reach there are gorgeous country pubs & stunning walks.
