Couples will love it here, hidden away down a quiet lane and with a stunning garden. Sarah and Stewart, who live in the adjoining longhouse have created a bright and pretty space with big windows to let sunshine and rolling countryside flood in.

Stroll to fabulous Cartmel for marvellous Michelin starred food from Simon Rogan, pick up all you need from a plethora of independent shops, a micro-brewery and tapas bar or simply enjoy a pint at a riverside pub. There are gentle walks and some more challenging ones straight from the door and you're near to The Lakes for wild swimming and cruises.

This is a generous place with blankets for outdoors and a good supply of logs for the wood-burner. The grounds are delightful and are open each evening for you to wander at will - take a glass of wine and watch the garden fall asleep.

  • Leave your car in the car park and walk straight from the cottage, almost immediately you will have views of Morecambe Bay. Join the Coastal Path at Bigland Tarn or walk the sea shore from Grange to Humphrey Head. Guides and maps are in the cottage.
  • Coniston Water is perfect for wild swimming - 20 mins away, the east shore has quiet bays and shallow water. Mountain biking at Grizedale, water sports on Lake Windermere, climbing Via Ferrata at Honiston Slate Mine and in the village Cartmel Segway.
  • Four miles over the hill just past the Lakeland Motor Museum is the Haverthwaite Steam Train - transfer to a hop-on-hop-off ferry around Lake Windermere. You can opt to walk between stops. An easy way to visit Bowness or the new Jetty Boat Museum.
  • Crumble Gardens open for the NGS but guests can visit privately each evening. Close by is Levens Hall with it’s ancient topiary, Holehird, Sizergh Castle and Holker Hall are also great gardens and along the way lots of specialist plant nurseries.
  • Cartmel’s riverside pubs are warm, welcoming with craft ales, log fires and good food or, eat at one of Simon Rogan’s Michelin restaurants for a special treat. Several places serve hearty breakfasts, delicious coffee and of course sticky toffee pudding!
  • Our famous cheese shop is a firm favourite with guests - set in Unsworth Yard a place also to eat al fresco with tapas, fresh pizza, fine wine and it’s own microbrewery. Visit the delicatessen and bakery to bring a selection home for a special supper.

Upper Crumble has been lovingly designed and is perfectly formed. It has everything you need for a very relaxing and romantic stay. "Beautiful cottage with everything one could possibly want - well equipped kitchen, delightful bathroom, log burner and a huge bed with pillows like clouds. Sarah and Stewart are excellent and helpful hosts. Cartmel village a stroll away and the majestic lakes an easy drive. There are loads of nearby attractions, the village has great pubs and if it rains, hole up and enjoy a round of Scrabble, provided in the box of goodies. We'd thoroughly recommend this cottage."

"Cosy, comfortable and quirky .. with little thoughtful special touches which make you smile … you need to go to find out!! Smart shower room, and well equipped kitchen .. and super living space with a dining table by the huge window giving lots of natural light!! The gallery bedroom was lovely. We really liked the flowers and herbs right outside of our door …pretty and tasty too!! Stewart and Sarah are working incredibly hard making a special place for visitors, as well as a haven for wildlife; the gardens, ponds and cottages are a credit to them!! We didn't want to leave. "What's not to like? Upper Crumble is beautiful, comfortable, stylish. Should you choose to eat in, you can, with ease. Should you wish to eat out, there is plenty to choose from in Cartmel, which is within walking distance. You will sleep well and relax. "A brilliantly well thought out layout that perfectly blends the original features with all modern amenities, the photos don’t do it justice. We immediately felt relaxed and at home and couldn’t have wished for a better location as wonderfully peaceful but only five minutes from the centre of Cartmel. We booked the optional hot tub which was fantastic after a hard day hiking and really did add to the luxury feel. Sarah and Stewart are also the perfect hosts as lovely to chat to and get some recommendations but left you with plenty of privacy to enjoy what is an idyllic romantic break."

"We can highly recommend Crumble Cottage. We arrived to a basket of vegetables and fruit a jug of herbs and vases of sweet peas all from the garden, lovingly cared for by Sarah and Stewart. The cottage was beautifully prepared for us and Sarah and Stewart were on hand every day always unobtrusive so we felt we were on our own. We did enjoy their company and conversation. Cartmel and the surrounding area was beautiful and some super places to eat particularly in Cartmel from budget to Michelin Star. "

"My husband and I spent a week at Crumble Cottage for our summer holiday & both agreed it was the perfect place to relax & unwind. The cottage had everything we needed in the most beautiful surroundings; we were spoiled for choice when it came to things to do, places to see and delicious things to eat! Within really easy reach there are gorgeous country pubs & stunning walks. The cottage itself is designed to make you unwind & if you're lucky enough to hear Sarah & Stewart (the most interesting & friendly hosts you could hope to meet) talk about the story of the cottage, you're in for a treat!"
