Golmar 13 - Self-catering house in La Coruña
Golmar 13, 15350 Cedeira, La Coruña
Galicia,
España
Clinging to a forested ridge, gazing at a vast expanse of sea, this fine old 'casa grande' invites you to share its spectacular position on the northernmost tip of Spain. Inviting and charming, with traditional furniture and original features, the ground floor is warmed by an open fire and glows with prints and paintings. Upstairs, breathtaking views take in 90km of coastline; gaze through the telescope in the family room – next stop Newfoundland! Simple bedrooms sport pretty pastels and chestnut furniture, while the master bedroom is more luxurious, with its claw-foot bath (and loo) on an open-plan mezzanine above. Village elder Manolo has the keys, neighbours are welcoming and there's masses of information about walks, activities and adventures. Swing in the hammock while the kids climb trees in the lawned garden or play table tennis on rainy days. Another world... yet you are minutes from Cedeira with its fishing boats and famous tapas bars. The beaches are Spain's best-kept secret: a vision of blues and greens, white sands and tree-fringed coves along Galicia's breathtaking coast.

Andrew Platt:
- Stunning cliff walks and bike rides from your doorstep. Take the car (30 mins) to Atlantic Europe's highest sea cliffs. You will see deer, wild horses, wild boar, and maybe even a wolf (!), and Cabo Ortegal is an important landfall for migrating birds.
- It is 4km to the fishing village of Cedeira, which boasts the best percebes (goose barnacles) in the world. Try these, and all sorts of other seafood, at local prices in any of the little tapas bars and restaurants.
- It's a 20-minute drive to World Championship surf beach, Pantín. But the choice of beaches is never-ending. Pounding surf beaches, protected estuaries, and secret coves shaded by chestnut trees. And for most of the year, you will have these to yourself!
- With so many estuaries, this is a great area for kayaking (Galicia has 1,659km of coast and 300km of beaches!) Paddle up the Sor to see its famous camelias, watch the sea bass in the shallow pools. Or paddle out to Spain's northernmost point with a guide.
- It's a 90-minute drive to Santiago de Compostela, a World Heritage Site. You don't need to walk the "Camino" (although I recommend that you do!), but you have to visit: the cathedral, the streets, the food, the history..... :)
