A lovely old roadside inn near Bath with a huge and warming bar, lots of bustle, wholesome food, pretty bedrooms and very friendly staff

Originally designed for arrival by train, the back of this Victorian building is much more elaborate than the front. Walk in to a long bar area with plenty of seating, merry coal-effect fires and a goodly display of Butcombe ales. A big refurbishment has just taken place and they've gone for the traditional wellies and Labradors country style. It's a happy place to pop in for a coffee with your laptop or lunch with friends.

Those who stay get very attractive bedrooms, either in the main building or the converted ticket office at the bottom of the garden. All have beautifully made beds and bathrooms with Bramley soaps. Spend summer evenings in the garden with children cavorting in the play area while you study a menu of seasonal pub classics and some more sophisticated plates from head chef Robbie.

Generous Sunday lunches, live music on Saturday nights, pub quiz on Tuesdays and summer parties make this place a big draw.

Located in beautiful Box on the outskirts of Bath, The Northey Arms is a beautifully refurbished pub and inn steeped in history, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The Northey is perfectly positioned for the world-class walking, cycling and dog-walking opportunities in and around Wiltshire and the Cotswolds.
Box has a thriving local community, while the nearby market town of Corsham offers a wealth of independent shops and plenty of cultural history, with Corsham Court and Estate open to the public.
The city centre of Bath is just six miles away, where you will find the Royal Crescent, spectacular Bath Abbey, the Roman Baths, Pulteney Bridge and Thermae Bath Spa (the only natural thermal spa in Britain).
Other local attractions include Peter Gabriel’s world renowned Real World Studios, the National Trust sites of Lacock Abbey and Lacock Village (filming locations for the likes of Harry Potter and Downton Abbey) and the picturesque village of Castle Combe.
Slightly further afield is the Neolithic henge monument of Avebury, which is one of the most well-known prehistoric sites in the United Kingdom.
