The inn sits in a dreamy thatched village and is always popular with locals. Behind the lozenge-paned windows gilt mirrors sparkle above smouldering fires, candles illuminate chunky tables, and fishing rods hang from the ceiling – fishing packages can be arranged with local ghillies.
There's a horseshoe bar, two private dining rooms, a terrace for summer breakfasts and good food – chef Harry creates dishes cooked from scratch using the freshest produce and showcasing some of the best of British. Local ales include Flack's Double Drop and Romsey Gold.
Comfortable bedrooms sit above the bar, in the Peat House next door and one by the terrace. All have good Hypnos mattresses, radios, TVs, Nespresso machines and en suite showers with Bramley soaps and shampoo. Wake to a freshly cooked full English, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, avocados, muffins and veggie options. Head out on a gentle riverside stroll to recuperate.
