Lord Poulett Arms - Inn in Somerset
High Street, Hinton Saint George, TA17 8SE, Somerset
England,
Regno Unito
This 17th-century thatched inn gives you a warm welcome, rooms with views of the village and much attention to detail: bathrobes, snazzy bath stuff, fresh milk in a china jug, little bags of shortbread.
Choose a table by the fireplace in the downstairs pub or in the Provençal-style courtyard and allow yourself a full Somerset breakfast – pastries, fruit compote and yoghurt; eggs with pork and marmalade sausages or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon; porridge with brown sugar and cream. The food is fresh, seasonal and local with much made, cured and smoked in-house; the atmosphere is easy going but refined, with proper silverware and linens.
Walks leave from the door, to the 13th-century Grade I listed church or the famous Spreading Oak Tree, or you can drive to stately homes – Montacute House, Forde Abbey House and Gardens – in 15 minutes. The Blackdown Hills AONB and the Jurassic Coast are only half an hour’s drive. Return for supper in the pub and the best night’s sleep.
