What joy to arrive here: red kites soar overhead, sheep bleat in the bracken and the brook shoots past you – heaven for dipping walk-weary feet on a summer evening. Inside is very comfortable, rustic and pretty, with painted stone walls, lovely old flagstones and a merry wood-burner for chilly evenings. You'll find plenty of board games, books and a TV if you're stuck indoors.

There's room in the kitchen for four to cook together, enough prepping space and all the pots and pans you need. You're left basics in the cupboards, plus apple juice and Welsh waffles to start you off. Bedrooms (two downstairs sharing a bathroom and one up with its own) have glorious views, fine linen and throws, deep mattresses.

A track leads into the mountains for wonderful walks and delicious infusions of the freshest air. Come back to wallow in the wood-fired hot tub, play a game of table tennis or pool, light the barbecue and watch the stars appear.
