An inspired collision of industrial Victorian chic and elegant Georgian architecture cuts a dash in an old Bristol square and will surely become an iconic landmark for the city. Stay in rooms which veer from small and deeply funky to downright movie-star special. All have bold, bright art and upcycled, vintage finds. Steam in a copper bath and loll about in robes while you tackle some toothsome treats from the mini-bar and beer, wine and gin from down the road.

Fresh, tasty a la carte breakfast from the open kitchen is served in the Boot Factory Bar, the Cafe and Restaurant or in the library with a crackling fire where a knock-out geometrically designed Rose Vickers presides. On balmy days you be on the terrace - a great little sunspot or attending one of the events hosted here.

Explore independent shops on mutinous Stokes Croft, find good food on the harbourside, puff or bus up the hill to Clifton for cafés, smart shops and the stunning Suspension Bridge.
